Find Inspiration for your Web Designs in Surprising Places

April 19th, 2013

Unless you’ve been in the shoes of someone who has actually had to design a website, you probably don’t quite realize how difficult it can be to figure out a design. A website needs to be able to be simple and concise, while still being able to have appealing style elements and have all of the important information displayed.

Not to mention all of the search engine optimization elements that need to be incorporated into all of this. Perhaps a little inspiration can at least get you moving in the right direction.

Take A Nature Walk

Nature is the single greatest form of inspiration for humans when it comes to the world of artistic design. In itself, nature is one great work of art that has thousands upon thousands of different style elements that make it so beautiful.

It doesn’t follow any single guideline and is wild and free, and is endlessly changing. Take it all in and see if you can’t find any inspiration for your new website.

Human Art

If nature didn’t seem to help any, perhaps you can try looking at artwork that has been designed by humans. Taking a trip to your local museum can help you find inspiration for your website, and will even be a nice break from all this thinking.

Humans seem to take interesting perspectives on different things, and this may pull some of your own perspective out of you for your website design.

It is perfectly acceptable to look at the way that other website designers have created their websites. While you can’t directly steal their ideas, you can use them as a springboard for creating your own. In fact, this method will more than likely prove to be the most helpful, and is one of the easiest.

While you should check your competition’s websites, take the time to look at completely irrelevant sites as well. It can be fun to type random topics into Google, and see what comes up. You never know when you’ll find a diamond among all the coal.

Talk About It

If you still can’t find a design for your website, perhaps you need an aid that isn’t visual. It can be helpful to talk to friends and family about your project and see what they think, after all, they may be part of the target audience you are shooting to appeal to.

Even if they don’t have any experience in website design, they are consumers nevertheless. They know what they will want to see displayed on a website, and what they will find annoying. If you have an artistic friend, you can even give them some inside information on your project and have them draw up how they would imagine the website looking. Never be afraid to seek outside help.

Draw Up Your Ideas

By getting your ideas on paper, it may help you actually see them without having to design the whole thing to decide if you like it or not. If you aren’t quite happy with the image in your head, you can make small changes to it and tweak it around a bit if you have it on paper. This could inspire some small ideas for your project.

To do your research on great designs, you need a reliable and high speed Internet connection. If you live and/or work in a rural area, there’s no way DSL or cable Internet companies could reach you to get you connected to their networks. Rely on Hughes Net for high speed Internet connection where you live.
